Thankful.10

Today I am thankful for....

1. Gas is $1.77! I filled up my Tahoe for $30.00. Let's hope it sticks.

2. I didn't call any of my kids the wrong names today. This is one I really have to work on. Yesterday Gavyn and I had this conversation:

Mom: Gavyn, you have got to learn other ways of venting your frustrations rather than hitting your brothers. (I then go on to explain a variety of ways he can vent rather than being mean to his brothers.)
Gavyn: (No response. Looking around the room and fidgeting.)
Mom: Look at me! Cayden...Bryce....What's your name, Gavyn. Are you even listening to me? What did I just say to you?
Gavyn: What's your name!

That is the only part of the conversation he even heard. I then decided that I need to call my kids by the correct name.

3. Curtis has the day off tomorrow. Yay!!! I think this will be the first day off all year that is actually just for fun. No doctor's appointments, no surgeries, no coming home to help while mama is sick! This is just because he can.

4. Dad's jambalaya. He made me lunch today since he had the day off and it was sooo good. Thanks dad!

5. Getting my work done by 10:30 p.m. tonight. I might get to bed by midnight. How great is that!

Thankul.9

Today, I am thankful for....

Brothers! I know that I already have used this one, but it was true again today. We went on a family drive to Smithfield to visit my sister and the boys were so good on the way there and back. They played, laughed, and watched a movie together. It made it a nice trip.

Andrew! Andrew is my nephew. We got to see him be ordained a deacon today. He just turned 12 a couple of days ago and I am so proud of him. He is such a great kid and my kids look up to him so much. They absolutely adore him. I am so grateful that he sets such a good example for them.

Cousins! My kids got to spend some time with their cousins today. They had a blast. They don't get to see some of their cousins as much anymore so we love it when we are able to get together. We almost had everyone on the Smith side together today. This picture is of all the cousins minus 4.

4 more days until Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving and I am so excited to have our family together again! Plus, I really just wanted to put this cute picture of Bryce on.

Sleeping boys! It was a full day today and my boys came home ready for bed. Yay for me! The picture I am not showing is the one of Curtis asleep on the floor as well. I didn't think he would appreciate that one so much.

Thankful.8

Today, I am thankful for...

Being able to check the last item off my to do list for the week. I love making lists! They really make me quite happy. I make lists of things to do for the week, calls to make, places to go, cleaning schedules, it goes on and on. When my lists get all done and I don't have anything urgent I usually make a list about things to write a list on. May sound strange, but there is nothing better than being able to cross out items when I get them accomplished.

Finally getting a good nights sleep last night. This has been a busy week and I have been up late typing every night. I was finally able to get to sleep at a decent time and wake up feeling well rested.

Finding my cell phone. I lose my cell phone quite frequently and it always happens when it is dead so I am not able to call it. Frustrating!

Awesome doctors! Bryce ended up with an ear infection AGAIN last night. Of course, at about 9 pm he started complaining so I had to take him to the emergency room. When I asked Bryce how long his ear hurt he told me it had been hurting for a couple of days, but he didn't tell me about it because he was trying to figure out how bad it hurt. Turns out he has had the same infection for the past three weeks and now his ear canal is full of blisters. That kid has such a high pain tolerance. I don't known how he does it. It is so sad when we walk in and the doctor walks by and says, "Hey, there's my little buddy Bryce." We should not be on a first name basis with ER docs. Anyway, they were so sweet with him and even sent him home with a teddy bear because Bryce told them it was teddy bear day at school.

Brothers. I love that my boys are such good friends with each other. Cayden and Gavyn have been trying all day to make Bryce feel better. They have catered to his every need. In fact, this morning Cayden rotated laundry a couple of times so that he could get Bryce's favorite shirt washed for him to wear. They love each other so much and I am so glad that they have each other.

Thankful.7

Today I am thankful for....

Being able to be lazy and hang out with Curtis for the day. These days are so necessary, but oh so few.

My little neighborhood. I love that there are so many kids on this street and I love that they are always running around having so much fun. My boys love their friends. It is nice to know that they are safe anywhere on this street.

Baking. I really love to bake. Mostly because I love to eat the cookie dough, but I also love having my boys help me and being able to take cookies to over to different people. They get sooo excited so be able to do this.

Movies. Today has been a movie day and I really enjoy watching a good movie either at home or at the theater. Usually at home because that is much less expensive!

Taco Enchiladas. I think I just might make some of those for tonight. They are one of my favorite meals and one the the kids all actually with eat without complaining - SCORE!

Thankful.6

Okay, this is for yesterday. I got done typing at 1am and tried to get on blogger to type, but for some reason my internet kept kicking me out. So, I will write what I am thankful for yesterday.

I am thankful for...

A sweet husband who got up with Bryce all last night because Bryce was not feeling well and let me sleep.

Being able to watch my niece, Abigail, yesterday and getting my baby fix in.

Desi coming and spending the afternoon with me just hanging out. Some weeks I don't get many visitors so it is so fun when someone comes to just hang out.

Jamie taking my picture for me at 8 pm even though I know she still has a migraine.

Visiting Mayson's grave last night with the kids which prompted questions about the second coming and being resurrected. I am always amazed at the questions that Cayden and Bryce come up with. Even Gavyn got in on the conversation. I love being able to teach my boys about the gospel and about their Heavenly Father's love for them. It was a great conversation!

Thankful.5

Today, I am thankful for...

I passed my Real Estate Salesperson test!!! Now, all I have to do is wait for the fingerprints to come back and I am set. Not many people know I decided to go into real estate and honestly I didn't know until about a day before I started the classes. After Mayson's funeral I dreaded being home without having a baby there so on a whim decision I started taking the classes. I talked to a good friend of mine and she said I could work work in her office twice a week for four hours and that I could bring the kids with me. That sounded good to me and it has kept me busy at a time when I needed it.

Coming home to find the house clean and dinner ready. Thanks Curtis!

My parents. They took us out to a congratulations dinner. (We put Curtis' pork chops in the fridge for tomorrow night.)

Being able to help in Bryce and Cayden's classes today. I love watching them learn and enjoy school.

Having one-on-one time with Gavyn all morning. He is growing up soooo fast. It is exciting, but it makes me sad sometimes.

Thankful.4

I have pictures of the kitchen mess Gavyn gave me yesterday, but my camera is in the other room and frankly I am too tired to go get it right now. I will post them later.

I do medical transcription from home in the evenings and am now just finishing up and thought I would write what I am thankful for today before it becomes Wednesday, which is in 8 minutes from now.

I am thankful for...

Being able to work from home so I can be with my kids during the day.
A husband who works so hard so that I can stay home with the kids.
My mom who calls and checks on my everyday to make sure I am doing okay.
My kids who went to sleep tonight without coming out even once (this NEVER happens!)
Being able to watch my sweet little niece today.

Also, I reread my post from yesterday and it sounded like I said my mom was being mean. My mom is wonderful and thought the whole thing was funny. I think it was more of me panicking at the moment! Sorry about that mom! I love ya!

Thankful.3

Today is a hard one. I really don't even have a reason why. I have been impatient and short with my kids and I have just wanted to hide in my room for the day. Sometimes life can feel so overwhelming. It is amazing to me how one day I can feel so good and then the very next day I feel so burdened. It has been a miss Mayson day. I miss him all the time, but somedays it is just so much harder. Usually I can pinpoint a reason why it was a rough day, but today I really can't. O'well.

So, I had a bad mom moment yesterday. Curtis and I had to go do our stake temple recommend interviews and so my parents said they would watch the boys for us. I was on the phone and Curtis had the boys go out and get into their carseats to wait for me. When I got off the phone Curtis and I walked out together and got into the Tahoe. We drove over to my parent's house and when we are walking up to the front door my mom comes running out with her phone in her hand as asks, "aren't you the worst parents ever!" Curtis and I look at each other and are absolutely clueless as to what she is getting at. As I start thinking of what I did wrong (kids are dressed - check, kids have shoes on - check, Bryce is wearing shorts but it is actually quite warm outside - check) then my mom asks us where Cayden is. We assumed he had gotten out with the other two and ran into the house already. Apparently, Cayden found the neighbor's coat in our house and had told Gavyn and Bryce to let us know he would be right back, he was running the coat over to the neighbors. Soon after Curtis and I came out of the house, got into the Tahoe, and drove off. Cayden tried to get into the house and when he couldn't he went back to the neighbor's house to call us. I have never left a child behind anywhere before, but the worst part was that I did not even notice. I was honestly just enjoying the fact that the kids were all being quiet in the back seat. We went back and picked up Cayden, who was laughing about it the whole time, and apologized to the neighbors and to Cayden. Poor kid! Bad parents!

Anyway, here is what I am thankful for today...

Neighbors who will let my child in when I happen to leave him behind.
Cayden who thinks it is a great adventure rather than being upset.
The fact that we only live about five minutes from my parents house.
Having the opportunity of apologizing to my son (I think it is sooo important for my kids to hear me say I am sorry to them!)

Shoot, Gavyn just destroyed the kitchen. I am now off to make him clean it up!

Thankful.2

I absolutely love Sunday's. I love having the time to rest and just be with my family. I don't think there is anything in the world better than that! I love being able to see my boys in their church clothes and going to church to feel the peace and the spirit that are there. I love coming home from church and hearing from the boys what they learned about in class.

So, here are the things that I am grateful for today...

That Curtis has a job that allows him to stay home every Sunday to be with our family.
For the gospel and its presence in my life and in my boys lives.
Those who are such good examples and teach me so much.
Feeling the spirit and feeling loved.
Knowing and being reminded that my family will be together forever!

I hope you all have a great Sunday!

Thankful!

Kathy, a lady I adore in my ward, gave a challenge to write five things that we are thankful for daily until Thanksgiving. I am excited to do this because I feel like even though our family has had some trials, we have had so many more blessings!

I am grateful for...

Curtis who is an amazing hubby and father
My awesome boys who are always there to make me smile
Living close to most of my family (We are still hoping Jen comes back soon)
Friends who I love talking to and hanging out with
A ward with so many amazing women who are such great examples to me
Living on a street with women that I love and respect and who are so good to my kids
A Heavenly Father who loves me and my family
Fall - this is my favorite season!
Being home, it has been a long day and I have only been home for the past hour
My bed, I am really tired tonight

I know that is more than five, but it is too hard to narrow it down! Here are some of my favorite pictures of my boys with their daddy!

The wit of a 3-year-old

Gavyn: Mama, I'm hungry.
Heidi: OK, let's go get some breakfast.
Gavyn: I am going to beat you mommy.
Heidi: No way Gavyn, I am going to beat you ... you're toast!
Gavyn: Mama, you're cereal!

Catching up ... AGAIN!

CURTIS IS IN THE CLEAR!

We have had some trials this year, but with them we have had so many more blessings! One of them is my hubby Curtis. Last week Curtis went in for his route labs, CT scans, and x-rays to make sure that the cancer is not coming back. He gets the tests on Monday and then we get the results back at the oncologist's office on the following Monday. Usually the week preceding the tests and the week waiting for the results are a little stressful because you never known when there is going to be something found.

Curtis was diagnosed with stage III embryonic cell carcinoma in September of 2006. January 4, 2008 will be his two year mark for being cancer free following the chemo treatments.

This morning Curtis went in to see the oncologist and was told that he is once again in the clear. In fact, every single test came back perfect! There are about 20 different tests done on the blood draw alone and they were all normal. The doctor told Curtis that he had never seen all the tests normal because even for healthy people it is unlikely for that to happen. Anyway, the doctor was so impressed that Curtis only has to go back in every six months from now on. YAY!! We are soooo excited. What a blessing!

Here are some pictures of Curtis during the chemo and today being healthier than ever!

This is Curtis being a good sport at a Christmas party in 2006. Rachael helped him out with this one!

Curtis opening a birthday present. His birthday is December 30th so if I forget to get birthday wrap he ends up with Christmas wrap - poor guy!

This is on his last day at the oncologist's office. This picture was taken while he was receiving his last chemotherapy treatment.

The doctor and nurses had a little party for him giving him gifts and having him wear a graduation hat. He had such a great doctor and such sweet nurses. They took good care of him.

This is Curtis today, actually about twenty minutes ago. He is as healthy as ever. What a hunk!

KUNG FU PANDA

Gavyn absolutely loves Kung Fu Panda! Curtis took him to the store on Saturday to buy the movie and Gavyn found a miniature panda and had to have it. Curtis, being the sap that he is, bought it for him. Gavyn now carries it around with him everywhere. Later on that day we were headed to go visit nana Cindy and I told him to go out to the tahoe and get buckled in. This is what I found when I got in...

VOTING - KINDERGARTEN STYLE

During the presidential elections the school district took the opportunity to teach the kids about voting. Bryce came home and was so excited that he had been able to vote at kindergarten.

His class was voting on Fox vs. Bear. Bryce informed me that Fox stood for milk and vegetables only during snack time, shorter recess, and more homework. Bear stood for chocolate milk and treats during snack time, longer recess, and less homework. The class voted and it was a tie. Here is who Bryce voted for - smart kid!

BASKETBALL SEASON

One thing about the Cornell boys is that they are all natural athletes and they love all sports. Cayden has been waiting and waiting for basketball season. These pictures are actually from his second game. He is on a team with a couple of his close friends and he is having a blast. Cayden made 9 baskets during this game and we are so proud of him!

I tried to get a picture of him with his tongue stuck out, but I don't think I got one. When I asked him why he always sticks out his tongue he informed me that it helps him to concentrate.

Leafy Bryce

On Wednesday last week Bryce and I had a much needed mommy - Bryce date! We baked cookies together, went shopping, and went to the park. We don't have any trees at our house yet - in fact we have only had grass for about a month, so Bryce had a blast jumping into the leaves.

Bryce is so much fun and is always smiling and happy. Thanks for spending the afternoon with me Bryce!!!

More Halloween Pics

Okay, I finally got the kids back into their halloween costumes tonight so I could take their picture. Bryce and Gavyn thought it was great. As you can see, Cayden was not too impressed.

I really need to figure out how to turn the pictures.... anyone?

Aren't they adorable!!!

One crazy week!

This past week has been a full one, but a good one.

First of all, can I just say that Gavyn is exhauting! He is not allowed to do anything for a month until his head heals up. He got his stiches out last Monday and I was told by the doctor that he cannot swing, jump, slide, do anything for the month or else a good bump on the head could open up his scar. Not cool! So all I have been doing is chaising him around and taking him off tables, trampolines, and whatever else you can imagine a 3-year-old will climb on. I definately don't have mellow children, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I did decide that he needed something so I gave him swingset priveledges and I let him slide and swing. I just know that the doctor is going to look over and come give me a talk since he lives next door. Oh well.

Halloween was so much fun this year. The kids loved their costumes. Cayden was Anakin Skywalker, Bryce was a white power ranger, and Gavyn was a blue power ranger. On Wednesday we went to a Halloween carnival with my parents. There were tons of games and tons of candy. On Friday, we got to go door to door trick-or-treating for a while. The kids had never done this before and they loved it. However, Gavyn got a little too excited at times and would just walk right in before ringing the doorbell. Good thing we have awesome neighbors who didn't seem to mind. Later, we went to a friend's trunk-or-treat. Somehow we always seem to end up with more candy than what we are able to give out. I am not sure how this happens. Afterwards we went to Bonnie's house for a Halloween party. They played musical chairs, had a spook alley, and all sorts of fun kids games. I think we got home at about 11 pm and that is when some friends came to our house to hang out for a while. I think we got to bed about 2 am. It was a long day, but a fun one!

I will be putting on some pictures of my kids in their costumes, but I need to get them to put them back on so I can take them. Somehow, I forgot my camera for the day and never got a picture taken - bad mom move, I know! Better late than never.

In the past three days we have had lots of sick kids and two ER visits. Does anyone else ever notice that kids always get sick in the middle of the night? Mine do. Bryce and Gavyn have the highest pain tolerance so when they finally get to a point where they say something we know we have to act on it fast. When it happens at 1 a.m. I just don't see the point in making them wait until morning so I always pack them up and take them in. Drugs are starting to kick in now so they are starting to feel better.

Yesterday I got to go help in Cayden's class at school and it was a blast. I love seeing him in his element. Cayden loves school. He usually gets his homework done on the bus and then when he gets home he has me print out math sheets for him to work on. He is a hardworker and such a nice kid. He has also been my little helper this past week with keeping Gavyn under taps.

Well, that is all for now. I will put some pictures on later. I will also try to post a little more often than once a week. It is easier to type when it is fresh in the memory rather than a week later. See ya!
